The Service Squad
Viking soldiers, the Varangians, formed the guard of
medieval Constantinople. Tech's Service Squad performs a
similar function for six thousand students of Tech. The Serv–
ice Squad's representative aids in the movement of traffic,
maintains order in the lunchroom and corridors, and guards
against unauthorized entrance and exit during school hours.
He is the smiling face and the cheerful greeting which the
teachers meet each morning. Mr. William Pabst, Tech's
former principal, has said of him, "He is the visitor's first
impression of Tech . . . the one who carries himself weH,
is neatly dressed, competent and alert ... he is truly an
ambassador of Tech."
Experienced faculty advisors, Mr. Robert Durso and Mr.
Paul Kaufman, guided this student organization, which had
been led in the fall term by Captain Herbert Henkel and
Inspectors Marc Hymowitz and Nicolas Koopalathes; and
in the spring term, by Captain Dennis Fagan and Inspectors
Kenneth Dalessandro and Neil Lyman.
