The General Organization
"Thing," the Viking parliament which met almost without interruption for nearly
nine-hundred years, was a relatively democratic organization in which all freemen
who owned land could vote at the annual meeting. It planned such activities as raids,
festivities, and sporting events, but more importantly legislated laws and served as
a court of justice.
Tech's General Organization is in many ways analogous to the "Thing." Its repre–
sentatives correspond to the "Thingmen" and students, to the Freemen; it sponsors
many of our teams and social events; in addition, its membership conducts annual
elections of officers (Marty Neier, Pres.; Bob Fisher, V.P.), thereby perpetuating
the democratic spirit instilled by its predecessor.
