The Mechanical Course
The supreme achievement of Viking tech–
nology was the warship. The trim vessel, the
pride of the Vikings' existence, was the key
to their military success. The Viking ship was
extremely suitable for water travel or coastal
forays and excellent for surprise attacks.
Although it was especially valuable for the
swift penetration of rivers and inland water,
the navigation skills of the Vikings enabled
the daring to venture forth on the open seas.
The art of shipbuilding, to which the Vik–
ings owed so much of their success, was not
developed in a single step. It was the result
of their technology and high craftsmanship.
The technology in the day of the Viking was
taught by skilled masters to their appren–
tices. Today, however, technology is taught
by specialized schools. The Mechanical Course
in TECH is an excellent course for the stu–
dent interested in the workings of science,
drafting and shop. Although the purpose of
this course is not to turn out perfected crafts–
men, the student still gains valuable skills and
experience to qualify him for entrance into
the industrial field.
