PATIERNMAKING
is designed to familiarize the student
with the
principles and skills relating to woodworking. Various
patterns
are made using the basic factors of shrinkage and
draft.
Gradually the scope of the work increases with the
introduction of more intricate patterns. The relationship be–
tween patternmaking and foundry is drawn throughout the
course.
FOUNDRY instructs Technites in the basic methods and
types of casting different metals. Students receive first-hand
instruction in molding and casting. Some molds are used to
make actual castings to be used in the shops.
MACHINE SHOP teaches the Technite the functions of
the many tools available in industry today. He immediately
learns the use of the basic hand tools. Gradually, he proceeds
to the various machines in the shop, as each one in turn is
required for a certain step in the project. There is a discussion
of each machine as to operation and safety before the stu–
dent may use it. In Advanced Machine Shop, the student de–
velops a professional outlook. Proper techniques and production
procedures are of primary importance.
