math
Even in the days of the Vikings, the science of mathe–
matics had its importance. Whether measuring crops, count–
ing gold, or laying out land, numbers played a vital role in
Viking life.
The math course given at Tech is considerably more
difficult than that which the Vikings had to master. Under
the direction of Dr. Barnett Rich, the Math Department
provides a comprehensive program. For the specialized
courses, the curriculum involves a required three-year pro–
gram with an optional fourth encompassing elementary and
intermediate algebra, plane geometry and trigonometry.
The College Prep Course requires a fourth year consisting
of advanced algebra and solid geometry. Finally, special
honors classes offer analytic geometry and calculus, leading
to advanced placement in college.
