Dr. Shafer, chairman
The Social Studies Department, under the
chairmanship of Dr. Burnell Shafer, once again
has taken the initiative by introducing a
course on the American government. This
course is designed for the Tech senior with
the purpose of enlightening him about his
political environment. It promises to be a
thought-provoking as well as informative
study.
Elsewhere in the school, the Social Studies
Department maintains a wide array of pro–
grams. Freshmen and sophomores study the
geography and history of the world, while the
juniors concentrate on American history; and
seventh termers, on economics.
Those with still a greater interest in the
field can take advantage of a variety of
groups sponsored by the Department. Typical
is the Free World Club where debate on
topical issues abounds.
Thus, through the efforts of the Social
Studies Department, by graduation, Technites
have
the knowledge of where man has come
from plus their own conclusions on what he
can hope to achieve in the future.
