Western Pride
stays
on top
)ecade
of the '70's winds to a close with recall of events
The grand finale signals
the conclusion of a great
performance, one seen and
understood by a majority of
the people. It is a tribute
to performers, understudies,
stage crew. director and
support personnel who
make the whole event
worthwhile.
Dissension, conflict,
hostility, humor, unity, the
unexpected. achievement
and compassion may
contribute to the memory
of the occasion. As the
1970's end and bring us
closer to the 21st Century
(and George Orwell's ''1 984''),
we find these components
in the final stages of the
decade.
Some will say that the
decade closed with
anticipation of more to
come (Ted Kennedy prepared
to challenge Jimmy Carter for
the Democratic presidential
nomination), dissention (Talks
deadlocked on the Salt II
agreement), conflict
(Uncertainty continued in the
Middle East and in Ireland),
hostility (South Korean
President Park was
assassinated by the head of
the Korean CIA), humor (Mork
and Mr. Bill proved that aliens
and modeling clay are a part
of our culture), unity (The
nation mourned the death of
John " Duke" Wayne), the
unexpected (The Saints were
NFL West leaders in
mid-season and the Cowboys
weren 't undefeated),
