The United State Ship HEPBUR (FF-1055) i named for Admiral Arthur Jary Hepburn, US . HEPBURN is the econd of the K OX cia Frigate commi ioned. Admiral Hepburn began hi illu trious career in 1893, when he joined the battle hip lOWA, fighting in one of the Ia t battle of the Spani h-American War. He di tinguished him elf a a Commander during World War I and wa named Commanderin-Chief, U.S. Fleet in 1936. On 7 June 1938, he wa named head of a Board to make recommendation as to the need for additional aval Facilitie in the Pacific and Caribbean area. From 1941 until he retired in 1945, he served as a delegate to the Dumbarton Oaks meeting which laid the groundwork for the United ations. Admiral Hepburn died in Wa hington, DC on 31 May 1964 and i buried in Arlington ational Cemetery. HEPBUR wa built by Todd Shipyards Corporation at San Pedro, CA. Her keel was laid 1 June 1966 and she was launched 25 March 1967. SS HEPBUR was commissioned on 3 July 1967. The ships of the K OX cia are designed to operate offen ively or defen ively in their primary mission areas of antisubmarine and anti-air warfare, hore bombardment, patrol, and earch and rescue. Thi was HEPBUR ' eventh WESTPAC deployment. HEPBUR has a umed variou role during her even deployment , including gunfire upport in upport of U.S. and allied force during the Vietnam conflict. She has traveled widely in the Pacific and Indian Ocean from the United tates to Momba a, Kenya , and from Japan to Australia. She ha represented the U.S. in many international exercises with allied force . During extended deployment , the normal complement of 17 officer and 240 enli ted per onnel is augmented by four pilots and 10 maintenance per onnel when the LAMPS helo i embarked . HEPBUR i commanded by Commander H.J. Miller, Jr., and i normally a signed to De troyer Squadron 13, the "Black Cat Squadron", as part of Crui er De troyer Group 0 E and aval Surface Force, U.S . Pacific Fleet.
