B COMPANY HEADQUARTERS COMPANY B LEAGUE BASKETBALL A COMPANY CCOMPANY THE B LEAGUE basketball championship of 1946 was captured by the Verbeck Hall team. Companies B, A, and Headquarters followed, in that order. The season was featured by low score and good defensive play. Each team had its scoring ace and usually would concentrate on holding each other's stars to a minimum of points. Leading performers were Ziebarth of C Company, Madia of B Company, Bower of A and Tarr of Headquarters. There were several outstanding games, featured by close scores and won by last-minute sallies. One of these was the second encounter ~etween Headquarters and ompany A. As in -League football, the usually dark hor e Headquarters team u ed A Company as the victim of the single victory of their campaign. The game wa close all the way and " ith about twenty seconds to go and A ompany ahead, 20 to 19 Tarr sank a lay-up shot to put Headquarters in the lead. Before A ompany could move the ball up into HQ territory, the '1,: histle blew. Other highlights of the season were Tony Madia's accuracy from the free-throw line, Ziebarth's sharpshooting from under the basket, and above all, fair play and sportsman– ship shown by all teams in the league.
