Wilfuer, R. Gocrlingcr, B. Carter, R. Beggs D. Kennedy, Coach Ellis. Clintonville vs. Merrill To start the season, the Truckers played host to the Merrill Blue-Jays. The Clints got right down to business and showed that they were a team to be reckoned with in conference competition for the season. The score stood 20-0 at the half. It wasn't before the fourth quarter that the Blue Joys scored on a safety making the final scroe 27-2. SCOit£: Clintonville 27 Merrill 1 Clintonville vs. Shawano The conference game got under way with Clintonville facing lh!>ir arch rival, Shawano. Shawano outplayed the Truckers the first half and led at the half by a score of 7-0. Shawano still dom– inated play the third quarter. Finally the Truckers uncorked a drive >nd didn't stop until they had crossed the goal line, but failed to convert. When the Clints got the ball again it was on a blocked punt. The ball was scooped up and returned to the 20 yard line, 27 seconds remaining in the game. The team dashed out of hte huddle, snapped the baol and started the last play of the game. Davidson faded back to the 40 yard line and lofted the ball in the air. Romey Mauel gathered the ball in his arms in the end rone and that was the game. SCORE: Clintonville 13 Shawano 7 Clintonville v~. New london The Truckers went into the second game of the season with revenge in th~ir eyes. They hadn't forgotten the 7 to 6 defeat suf– fered at the hands of the Bulldogs last !season. From the opening whistle thE- game was all Clintonville's. Passing and running well off the spread formation, the Clints racked up 1BI yards to a 19 yards for New london. SCORE: Clintonville 35 New london 0 Clintonville vs. Neenah The third game of the season found Clintonville facing an– other unbeaten team in the conference, Neenah. The Rocket de– fense kept the Clintonville famed spread from erupting. While the Clints couldn't get rolling on the ground or in the air the Rockets pushed across two to~.;chdowns. Neenah was unscored upon in former competition but the Truckers got a safety against them for two points. This was of course, small consolation. SCORE: Clintonville 2 Neenah 14 Sixty-two Clintonville vs. Menosha The Truckers hadn't seemed to recover from the Neenah game of the previous week and showed it in one of the poorest games they played the whole season. Fumbles were very costly for the Clints. The Truckers moved well in mid-field but couldn't g~t near th:. Blo..ejay goal. Menasha scored twice. SCORE: Clintonville 0 Menasha 13 Clintonville vs. Kimberly A Trucker team which was tired of losing took the opportunity to snap out of it at Kimberly. Craving victory, the Clints went all out and dominated the whole game. Scoring on end runs, line plunges, and passes, the team turned in one of their best games of the season. SCORE: Clintonville 32 Kimberly 0 Clintonville vs. Kaukauno It was Homecoming again. And the Truckers were host to a team who had never s<.ffered a loss at Clintonville's hands. The team and Coach Ellis thought it was about time. The Truckers surprised a lot of poeple the first half, including Kaukauna. The Clints cam:. onto tne field after the first half, leading by two touchdowns. That wasn't enough for them, so they pushed across another before the game ended. The jinx had been broken. SCORE: Clintonville 19 Kaulcouno 0 Clintonville vs. Two Rivers A thrilling game at Two Rivers closed the season for tha Truckers. The Purple Raiders were stronger than the Clmts sus– pected. The Truckers played the first half as if in a daze. They went off the field trailing 6.(). A Two Rivers team had never beate11 a Clintonvilll' ream before and the Truckers realized that they had better settle down. But it wasn't until the last quarter that the team pushed a score across on a long pass and then a line plunge. When the Clmts got their hands on the ball again, they passed for another touchdown. With four minutes remaining in the game, Two Rivers marched all the way down the field and threatened to score. A few passes into the end zone were knocked down and the gun went off bringing the '53 football season to a close. SCORE: Clintonville 12 Two Rivers 6
