THE DIRECTORS The 1952-53 student council under the capable leadership of the president, Tom Ma– lueg, with the assistance of vice-president Chuck Hanson, and secretary, Dorothy Popeck, had a very active year. The ball started rolling when the council started to work on homecoming festivities. Their job included selecting the judges, or– ganizing the parade, and the bonfire, and the dance. During the year, the council members ushered at the football and basketball games, sold ice cream at the basketball games, spon– sored noon hour movies, and acted as guides in the halls for strangers coming to school. Dan Schnorr and Tom Malueg represented C. H. S. at the state convention at Eau Claire. Very interesting and helpful information was brought back by both boys. The council again this year sold salt water Fifty-four taffy. One thousand pound boxes plus seventy– five dozen bags were sold. From the receipts of the taffy sale, the council gave $75 toward the new band uniforms and $25 each to the March of Dimes and the Heart Fund. This year's council joined with other schools in the nation and conducted a clothing drive. Three thousand three hundred nineteen pounds of clothing were sent to Save the Children Fed– eration plus $12 in cash. Later in the year, the council conducted a collection for the needy in the flood areas which netted $50. For the annual service project this year, the council has donated to the school, a much need– ed sound box for the auditorium which will be greatly appreciated by everyone. Looking over what the council has done it is easy to see that the council is truly a service organization and they certainly have done the job well!
