Geurink The bands at Oregon are of fine quality. Each one puts in many hours of seriously disciplined practice in preparation for performance. The two concert bands are the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble. The Symphonic Band is made up of the younger band members, mainly Freshmen and Sophomores. In Symphonic Band, the students are taught many concepts which may be new to them, improving their overall skills. The idea that a band works as a body does, with each section playing the role of a limb, having to cooperate in order to function is also impressed upon them. All of these things are done with hopes of developing fine young musicians. The Wind Ensemble is made up of the more experienced band members. This is where the skills acquired in the younger band are put to the test. Wind Ensemble involves learning music of a more mature level: music in which each phrase must be expressed through an understanding of the intended concept, truly respecting the abilities of each individual. Both bands show a great amount of talent. This talent can only be extracted by each member doing his part by approaching music seriously while remembering to find enjoyment in what he does.
