Social Studies is that group of classes designed to teach us about the so– cial, political, and eco– nomic development of our country and the world. It is sup· posed to help us in our lives so that we may have some idea why international events and activities take place as they do - like why a new Disney World is being built in Japan. why Russian women look like Rus– sian men, and why a Rabbit is not a car - it's a Volkswagen. Also, social studies classes enable us to better answer some of the more puzzling questions of the world. such as .. . . Is Charles Manson really Santa Claus in dis– guise? ..Jtl- , ..-l~ Louise Watson ~~~ Bonnie Gp enland Debbie Rusch -t~/YV~~-- · ..A!~~~ .I &:J~ ~~~-#l-..u-~~ 1£~~~~~~ ~?~ Surely everybody has heard a foreign language spoken at one time 6 or another. Once you begin to learn a different language, you might like it . And think how you could use it - out of class, that is. For example, you might be angry at a friend. You could then " tell" the friend off in Spanish or German. You'll love it when your friend stands there and smiles. Foreign languages can also be very romantic. This world might be a better place in which to live if we all spoke more than just our own tongue.
