The Air Up There Reaching the Goal The state championship and the Franklin boys' basketball team were talked about around town in the time leading up to the beginning of the sea– son. With returning seniors Cody Waddey, Dana Slater, Phillip Williams, Alex Patterson, Bryan Nelson, andMatt Crocombe, everyone thought that the team had a real chance of going to state. Then tragedy struck. Shooting ace Matt Crocombe did not return be– cause of a rare heart condition, and powerhouse Phillip Williams was out due to a broken leg. Coach GaryWaller quickly searched to find someone to fill their positions, and the Rebels got off to a rough start, losing four games early in the season. Finally, with the help of Alex Patterson and John O'Rourke, who stepped up to become star players, the team regrouped and began crushing the opposition. With the one-game re– turn of PhillipWilliams, the Rebels con– tinued to hold their tradition of victory over arch rival, Centennial.
