FOREWORD "United we tand, divided we fall ... " Such was the case of nine small schools which were to be combined as one large jigsaw puzzle. On July l we officially became Spartans of Wyoming Valley West. Uncertainty inten ified as chool commenced and we soon r.ealized that like Spartan children, we had to withstand many change and disappointments. Dr. Smodic became our Superintendent and he wa chosen to break the traditional rivalries so immediately the newspaper and yearbook became one. As prejudices began to disappear, we learned to work and co-
operate with each other and the tremendous success of "My Fair Lady" became a reality proving this. A the greatly improved curriculum was released, we were shown the achievements and opportunities the new jointur.e was to bring. We suddenly became aware that the administrators were not trying to destroy our chool spirit, but to expand and renew it. Misunderstanding erased, the future of Wyoming Valley West appears bright. We hope this year· book will preserve the many memories·of our first phase of Spartan training, bravery under hard hip, which is also the theme we have chosen.
