Coach Lew Shook's team was sparked by four veterans of last year's campaign- Charles Lepore, George Mazur, Peter Car– rozza, and Bernie Wierbowski. Newcomers Joe Raymond, Thomas Lloyd, and Gordon Wil1iams filled vacant varsity po– sitions very capably. In dependable substitute roles were John Poder, John Kizis, Robert Checkele, and John Mulhall. This entire aggregation compiled a record of thirteen wins and ten losses. The team started the season off in an encouraging manner, as we opened our exhibition series by. defeating a classy Taylor H. S. team. Success was ours again, when we racked up an im– pressive win over Dunmore High School, which is rated a Class A school, and then over Hughestown H. S., the Regional Class C Champs. Our next game was against Wilkes-Barre Township, and this we won by one point on a foul shot which was sunk during the closing seconds of the game. The last exhibition game of the year was our traditional game against the Alumni. Youth and agility proved too much for our older opponents, as we registered our fifth straight win. Although we could not keep our undefeated record for the rest of the season, the team did manage to win its share of the league games. One of the main reasons for the team's success was its height. Included among our tall men were: George Mazur, 6' 3 '~ ; Bernie Wierbowski, 6' 1" ; John Kizis, 6' 3" ; John Poder, 6' 1" ; and Gor– don Williams, 6' . Three of the brightest spots on our team were high scorers George Mazur, Charles Lepore, and Gordon Williams.
