EVALUATION "SEE YA' LATER, EVALUATOR" . .. Evaluation of the Hazleton Senior High School got underway Tuesday morning, February 7, with a committee of twenty-one schoolmen making the survey. S. E. McDonald, superintendent of schools at Coatesville, was chairman of the visiting com– mittee. Assisting chairman was L. C. Bubek, principal of Forty Fort Junior-Senior High School. Hazleton School District was host for the groups of visiting educators at a dinner Monday night at the Hotel Altamont, with School Board President Frederic W. Deisroth delivering the address of welcome. Superintendent Thomas L. Hinkle also spoke briefly, expressing the hope that the vis– itors would find their stay in Hazleton a pleasant one. Following the dinner, the visitors were taken on a tour of the high school building and then discu&ed the philosophy of the school with Mr. Shanno. During their three day stay, the committee took a comprehensive look at the school and its program. In making the study, the committee used criteria or standards developed over a long period of time by the Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges of the Middle Atlantic States. By studying the local facilities and program, the committee was able to determine how the local school compared with the ideal standards and with other high schools which have to be evaluated periodically, at least once every ten years. Results of the study were used to determine if the high school would remain "accredited". When a school is accredited, its graduates with sufficiently high grades are accepted readily by col– leges, nur!>ing schools, technical schools, etc. After the association officers went over al1 the data, a report was submitted to the local board. The report poi·nted out the strong points and the weak points in the local program, with recommen– dations on improvements that should be made.
