Edwin Bigler certainly does have birds in his belfry! What makesus say such a thing about Mr. Bigler? Well, it could be the fact that he has one of the top pigeon lofts on the east coast. In the past, Mr. Biglerhas won the national title for the best loft. That's not bad, considering there are literally thousands of pigeon lofts all over the U.S. Mr. Bigler has been raising pigeons for 30 years and now has at least 200 feathered friends. Training and conditioning for racing begins in the spring, and races continue until hunting season in the fall. During winter Mr. Bigler raises pigeons for show; these are used for breeding purposes and not for racing. Mr. Bigler tells us that all pigeons must be registered, so in case of national emergency they can be drafted. They were used during WWI and II for carrying messages. This man has certainly brought out a more respectable image for pigeons than the residents of pigeon-popu– lated cities have. f,Q
