Faced with a tremendous rebuilding job this year, our football team battled through a dishearten– ing season. Having lost their best defensive prospect, Ed Mills, in the first game against Suffern, and then being drubbed by powerful Albany and by mighty New Rochelle, the players began their D.U.S.O. schedule on an unenthusiastic note. Throughout the season there were sparkling performances by such players as Dan McGrane, Joe Schabot, Brian Bach, Vince Crantz, and Mike Burns. However, no completely balanced team efforts were made in most of the games. An exception was the upset win over Mont Pleasant. Here was the game which made up for an otherwise mediocre season. Intent upon redeeming themselves after the disaster of the previous year, the Maroons were at an emotional peak. After spot– ting Mont Pleasant the first six points, the team ta}Hed two touchdowns and played a dazzling defen– sive game to bring the final score to 13-6. A vital part of the team was the underclassmen who proved themselves to be the prospects for a better season next year. Lou Perry, Bill Knox, Gerard Boggs, and Jack Schatzel are just a few of the players who are expected to be the strength of next year's squad. 119
