Shoot'n the Hoops Boys' Varsity Basketball On 'Ib the Pit With an intense desire to bring home the district title, the boys' varsity basketball team worked overtime to perfect their skiHs. As the season began, the players were anxious and grateful to have the additional practice time each day. On top of the additional practice time, the coaches placed emphasis on self-motivation and team unity. "I knew our team would be better than a lot of people thought we would be. As we played throughout the year, we opened some eyes, but not our own. We knew we could do even better and strive for the ultimate goal, the state tournament, and a chance to be Number 1 in New Mexico," said Coach Huston. The guys pulled off some spectacular games during the season, through their hard effort and dedication. In District play, the fourth– seeded Knights beat Los Lunas in the Duke City and won again in Las Cruces, upsetting second-seeded Mayfield 68-58 in the semifinals. The Knights finished second in District play after a loss to West Mesa. As the Team qualified for State competition, the rallying cry became "On to the Pit."
