( Jr. NAD Club New to Del Norte Originally, the Junior National Association of the Deaf(Jr. NAD) was founded by the National Association of the Deaf as a Youth Section to de– velop interest and leadership among young deaf students in organizations of the deaf and to pro– vide a meaningful group activity for them. The sponsor, Donna Bright, who is also an au– diologist for public school sin Albuquerque, want– ed to have this club to give a special awareness for hearing impaired students. Positive attitudes and a lot of ambitions are the top priorities for the new club. At the first meeting, they elected officers. Other members included Richard Villanueva, Wesley Blue, and Anton Lucero. The club did some serv– ices in the community such as caroling at Mark Twain Elementary School during the holidays. Throughout the year, they did some fund-raising. Vice-President Brandy comments, "Jr. NAD is a group that shows that we (the deaf community) can do anything we want to do and become suc– cessful." It indeed was a success and brought to– gether new friends, more knowledge, and opti– mistic hopes for our futures. by Nancy Hamilton The whole club!
