Play gets good marks. De spire an injured cast mem- ber and a late start, Roosevelt's entry in the region SAA One Act Play Contest received two A's and two B' s from contest judges. Regular cast member Larry Page was unable to appear, due to an injury he suf- fered while diving. Senior Tony Putnam took over the part with only two days of preparation. The play originally scheduled for the contest was "Cain, " but lack of support for the play forced director Steve Phillipps to change plays and start rehearsals at a late date. The play tells the story of a shy southern girl (played by Betsy Bergen) and her gentleman caller Jim (Tony Putnam/Larry Page) and an ambitious mother Qulie Papulous) and the restless son (Bill Olson). Director Phillipss was pleased with the outcome, stating that it was, "A good finish from a poor start."
