The '71- '72 Season Proves to Be For the 1971-72 hockey team coached by Bill Kennedy, it was a season of achievement and excite– ment, in which it compiled a 14-6 regular ea on record, the best a Cloquet hockey team has ever done. There were three overtime games, all won by the Jacks. An important game for our men to win was the Superior game, in which Cloquet totally outskated and outscored Superior 4-1. There was also the late- eason thriller when our Purple Gang toppled Central 3-2. In the District 26 tournaments, Cloquet placed third, and Rick Wahtera and Steve Oakes were named to the all tournament team. The Jacks' hopes for further tournament action were ended by top– ranked International Fall in the first game of the regional tournament by a core of 5-1 . Seniors who contributed leadership and pirit to the team in addition uperb playing are Scott Hambly, Greg Kujawa, Mark Milberger, Jerry Sulli– van, and Rick Wahtera . Many talented underclass– men are returning, o pro pects for next year look bright. Additional improvements were made to the Pine Valley Ice Shelter this year which probably contri– buted to the many capacity and near-capacity crowd at the games . The helter has made it possible for the boys to get more practice time and will be instrumental in helping them become a top area hockey power. Happiness is a goal. Go geL 'em WaLLs.
