~~Anne Frank," stirring performance. Here is a recipe as presented by the Ann Ar– bor High School Dramatics Department: Place one dingy, dirty, stuffy little attic garrison in the midst of war-ridden Amsterdam, infested by one Adolph Hitler. Thrust in reluctantly one Jewish family of four, mix frequently with one quarrelsome family of three, and agitate well with one short-tempered, old dentist. Attach to all this two very unsecure life-lines to the out– side world, constantly stab and tear with frantic hopes and fears, and voila, we have one "Diary of Anne Frank."- observe with caution - emotions very unstable ... The cast for "The Diary" consisted of the fol– lowing: Anne, Louise Elving; Mrs. Frank, Chil– ton Cunningham; Mr. Frank, Jon March; Peter Van Daan, Peter Dodge; Mrs. Van Daan, Mar– cia Brownson; Mr. Van Daan, Pete Peterson; Mr. Dussel, Mike Bott; Margot, Annette Payne; Miep, Inge Asendorf; and Mr. Kraler, Dave Murray. The play was directed by Mr. Donald Schultz. Staging was under the direction of Mr. Ronald Dawson. The sole survivor of the Frank family, Mr. Frank, after the war, visits his small factory hidaway where his family had hidden two and a half years from the Nazis before they were discovered. Here, Miep presents Mr. Frank with Anne's diary, which he had given her three years earlier, and which had been left in the room. In the early months of the Franks and Van Daans' seclusion the witty, talkative, and some– what childish Anne was the source of many mixed emotions - especially to the quiet and shy Peter. Here, Anne has taken advantage of Peter's vacant room to don his trousers and cavort around the room in a mocking manner while Peter watches by helplessly.
