Mathematics encompasses our "As this old world turns on its axis, As we observe the phases of the moon or the days of the week, The position of the sun or the curving of the highway; As we move into the unknown realm of space or analyze the complexities of economics, As we build structures for beauty and for usefulness or develop computers of amazing capacity; As we trade in endless supermarkets or prophesy the weather, As we automate our industries or plan insurance programs; Again and again we see the patterns of mathematical thought in a never ending chain of continuous development. Its symbolisms help communicate these thoughts to those who will work to understand them. We learn mathematics and teach it and use it to help us solve and plan and create for the future." 20 lives.
