South Lake High School 1951 Yearbook (St. Clair Shores, MI) - Full Access

FRESHMEN YEAR 1947-48 Welcome, seemed to be in the smiles and eyes of all the students, as we, the class of 1951 entered South Lake. The beginning days were trying ones--taking the proper courses, find– ing the right classes. Oh, what con– fusion. With the passing of the days, we quickly settled down, and our first class meeting went into session. From this moment history began. Miss Hand and Mr. Gleason were appointed as our sponsors. Under their faithful guidance many successful activities were con– ducted. We enjoyed our new title of '' Freshies '' with pleasure, as it made us feel members of South Lake. Most work assigned to us was undertaken with much zeal and fervor. Soon each day found us looking forward to June, and when it came, everyone joyfully welcomed the day. After all wasn't it a step nearer our goal--Graduation. SOPHOMORE YEAR 1948-49 We returned in September, after many weeks of vacation. We were no longer floundering. After all we were veterans. We knew the''ropes.'' Some new faces appeared in our midst. Class organization was a much easier task. Under the guidance of our new sponsor, Mr. Gleason, we set out to have an active and successful year. Foremost among our activities was a hay ride, upon which the class, playing the role of country hay seeds, had a hilarious time. January came with its exams and we waded through our text– books (some for the first time) cram– ming industriously. With exams passed and the com– ing of summer, our spirits perked up and much attention was paid to studies so that we might finish quickly this our second year and be off for a brief vacation. Then we could return fresh and exuberant for our Junior year.
