Whitman tudents chose from four language : Latin, German, French, and Spanish. Latin cholars refought the Punic War and cro ed the Rubicon with Cae ar a they developed their knowledge of entence tructure and word origin. Goethe and Borchert were emphasized in German III, a newcomer to Whitman's curriculum. Expanded u e of audio-vi ual aid enabled teachers to furnish Whitman tudent with a well-defined impre ion of the country who e modern language they were studying. As they drilled on grammar and pronunciation idiomatic truc– tures and colloquiali m , foreign language cholars explored history, literature, mu ic, and ways of life. MR. NORWOOD P.
