Track Team Vaults Poles, Jumps Hurdles, Stamina and peed helped Whitman's distance runners during an outstanding 1967 season. Setting a new County record, Terry Cox ran the mile in 4:19.9. The track star al o set chool record by running the two-mile in 9:27.5 and the 880-yard run in 1:57.5. Roger Calvert ran the 440- yard da h in 51.7. The new one-mile relay team, Roger Calvert, Erik ewpher, Gary Britton, and Ru s Coombes, made 3:30 the chool record. High jumper Dan Brooks cleared the bar in 6 5 '. Coaches Staley Jackson and Vincent Brown replaced Stan Jones a pon or of the 1967 cindermen; former Coach Jones left to play profes ional footbaJl for the Washington Red kin . Many well-trained veteran and a crop of talented rookies indicated that the 1967 track team was on its way to a ucce ful ea on.
