Selected by a committee of faculLy and alumni, Le lie Walleigh received the Franklin and Mar hall College hook award. Students Merit Honors For Academic Skills At an honor award as embly held in the pring of 1966, area alumni from six different colleges presented book award to out tanding Juniors. Cho en on the ba i of their academic achievement and their ervice to the school and community, these tudents received in cribed leather-bound book. Three Senior po essing all-around academic excellence represented Whitman in competition with teams from other area chools on the television quiz show, "It' Academic." After triumphing over area teams in four matches, they won the final and regional championship playoffs. The only undefeated team in the Washington area, the Whitman boys accumulated two trophies, encyclopedias, and cash grants for the school. Math enthu ia t who met the high requirements for membership in the national mathematics honor ociety were inducted into Whitman's chapter of Mu Alpha Theta. An "A" average in all four con ecutive high chool math cour e determined eligibility in the society. Proficient with co ines and equation , the Mathletes com– peted in meet with students from other County high schools.
