A dramatics class is told about the various techniques of acting before practicing a skit on stage. The importance of competence in language is stressed at El<Tin High not only in Engli h, but in other languages as well. The English Department, headed by Mr. Ettner, strives to teach students the correct usage of grammar and punctu– ation. larity of thought and expression is also stressed. This department include other areas of English such as World Literature, Creative \ riting, and dramatics. The World Lit. cla ses study literature from it beginnings in ancient Greece and Rome through its development in many nations Above all, actors must look and act natural while portraying a part. Here a few of Mr. Brand's students rehearse a scene from a play. Bob Winter achieves this natural look pretty well. of the world. The drama students are taught self-expression and are given background on the theatre and acting. In other language , French, Latin, German, and pani h, students learn grammatical structure and conversation. The language lab helps the students master pronunciation and rapid compreherysion of what is said in the foreign language. Translations of torie and poems are al o done. Mr. Mac– Williams is head of this department. The Spanish students in the lab are listening to recordings de– signed to increase their comprehension of the language. They also may record their voices for the purpose of listening for im– provements and errors and for testing.
