TO THE EIGHTH GRADE
"They have tied me to a stake; I cannot
fly
But, bearlike, I must fight the course."
(Macbeth - Act V Scene VI)
For you the school year has been a vital one; the threshold of High School now
awaits you.
looking back upon your Eighth Grade careers, we find a fascitlating variety of
achievements in the fields of athletics and scholarship; also an equally fascinating var–
iety of minor crimes committed and punishments truly earned! Yet throughout the year
there has been a unity among the Eighth Grade, a unit.y of good humor that has carried
us along the crest of its effervescent wave clear of the submerged dangers that threaten
the course of every Eighth Grade.
Academically you have learned a great deal. Inevitably you will forget much of
it. But if you can carry into the High School years ahead the ability you have so admir–
ably displayed this year - the abil ity to lubricate the engine of mental labor with a
liberal splash of good humor, then the tower ing peaks of learning ahead need hold no
fears for any of you.
As you pass along on your educational journey, take with you my wishes for
every success in the years ahead, and I shall, with happy memories of the year when
your teacher was.
